It is essential that all staff who are in a supervisory position with any employee but more importantly with apprentices or young people are aware of the legal requirements of that position and also the moral or pastoral role that often accompanies that responsibility.
Both practical and informative, our Supervising the Safe Learner training session gives an insight into the roles and responsibilities of individuals and organisations who, in the course of their business, either have responsibility or allocate members of staff to take responsibility of new employees, apprentices and other young workers.
Supervising a learner, young person or any employee is not simply a matter of ‘showing them the ropes’, it has a much deeper impact than that. The Supervisor has to provide correct information relating to work place induction, safety, first aid, data protection and welfare provisions and much more.
It is often the case that the ‘new’ person, the learner, is given to the oldest/most mature or simply the most friendly person in the work place – their role is to help the newcomer to fit in and know where the toilet is. In reality, they need to be aware of a whole host of legal issues, risk assessments and even a little psychology in order to assist the learner to become a valuable asset of the business.
This course tells you what the law requires and gives advice on how to meet its requirements and also gives a little guidance as to how to get the best from your young apprentice, work placement or new employee.

The Safe Learner concept
Basic Health and Safety Legislation
