Data Protection Awareness

It is essential that all staff who handle personal information understand the fundamental principles and the practical requirements for complying with data protection rules.

It is also important that staff are able to identify breaches or potential breaches of data protection law, and to react appropriately.

Practical and non-technical, our Data Protection Awareness training session gives an insight into the Data Protection Act 1998 and how it affects individuals and organisations.

Data protection touches every organisation. All staff who deal with information - from databases to personnel records - need to be aware of the legislation surrounding data protection.

Data protection compliance isn’t simply about consent wording on application forms or placing a few policies on your intranet. Complying with these laws requires awareness of the data protection rules amongst your staff and a culture that encourages secure data handling practices.

Many breaches continue to occur simply through ignorance. The consequences can include fines, compensation claims, bad PR and even losing the use of valuable databases. But how do you create this culture?

Few organisations have the in-house expertise, resource or training budget required to provide data protection training to all their staff. Having responsibility for training staff on data protection issues can be a daunting prospect.  Yet it is essential that all staff who handle personal information understand the fundamental principles and the practical requirements for complying with data protection rules.  It is also important that staff are able to identify breaches or potential breaches of data protection law, and to react appropriately.

The Data Protection Act 1998 governs the use of personal information by businesses and other organisations. If your business requires that you process peoples personal details, such as customer or employee records, then you must comply with the Act.
